Struggling With Doubt

Doubt can be an uncertainty that produces hesitation; it can be a questioning that leads to investigation; it can be a lack of confidence that leads to distrust and unbelief.  Of these three forms of doubt, only the last deserves rebuke. There is a broad spectrum of doubt: At one end is faith and at the other, unbelief.  If not stopped, waves of doubt can build until the breakers crash over your soul, leaving your faith "shipwrecked".  But you need not sink.

    • "Truly, I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them."  Mark 11:23
    • "See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God." Hebrews 3:12
    • "holding onto faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith."  1 Timothy 1:19

Jesus' disciples were plagued by doubt. Yet Jesus patiently teaches them, loves them and cares for them. How is Jesus acting on your behalf when you doubt?  The disciples reached a point, however, when they are repeatedly confronted with truth yet continually doubt.  Jesus them rebukes them for their lack of faith. (Mark 16:9-13)

  • Read John 20:24-29  Thomas was not present when Jesus appeared after his resurrection to the rest of the disciples. Perhaps Thomas did not believe the disciples story.  He couldnt respond in love and gentleness, "Put your finger here; see my hands.  Reach out your hand and put it into my side." Jesus offered tangible evidence to Thomas to strengthen and build his faith then told him, "Stop doubting and believe."
      • When doubt assails you, examine your heart.  Is your doubt simply a mental questioning or testing? If so, don't berate yourself. Seem wisdom and continue to test all things.  If your doubt arises from hardness of heart, repent and ask God for greater faith.  Jesus is the "perfecter of faith". It is only through your trust in him that your faith will be built up and that your doubts will finally and fully be put to rest.

    • "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5
    • "but test them all; hold on to what is good." 1 Thessalonians 5:21
    • "fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2
    • "Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness— in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior" Titus 1:1-3

God's Pursuit of You

Each day in the Garden of Eden is perfect.  The soft ground cushions Adam and Eve's bare feet.  The dew waters their surroundings to a perfect, lush green.  Evenings in the garden are even better- if perfection can be improved on.  That's when Adam and Even walk with God.  His presence surpasses the rest of their day and brings them joy and peace.
But this day is different.  They hear the "sound of the Lord God" as he walks "in the garden in the cool of the day".  But they don't run to meet him.  They don't feel the way they used to.  They hide because they are filled with shame, a new emotion for them.
God is calling you too.  Are you running to meet him- or are you hiding from him?  Shame can prevent an intimate, personal relationship with God.  But it's important to differentiate between true sham and false shame.  You feel true shame if you feel guilty for your sin.  You feel false shame if you feel dirty because another person sinned against you.  If you have been wounded by someone else's sin, you may feel a sense of shame, but it is not true shame.  Bring true shame to the cross of Jesus for forgiveness.  Bring false shame into the arms of Jesus for healing.
If your sin seems too great or horrible to be forgiven or if your shame seems so overwhelming that it can't be removed, remember, Jesus loves you so much that he has already taken your sin and shame on himself.  He makes you clean from it. Receive his gift and let him wash your shame away.
  • Read Acts 22:3-21.  Paul tells the crowd he had been passionate in his persecution of Jesus' followers.  He had thought he was pleasing God by destroying those heretics.  At his conversion Paul discovered the truth.  By persecuting Jesus' followers, he had been persecuting God.  Yet God forgave Paul and used him in a mighty way.
In spite of your past- no matter what you have done- God loves you and has plans for you.  You can believe him when he says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness." Jeremiah 31:3

jack johnson.

I've got an angel
She doesn't wear any wings
She wears a heart that can melt my own
She wears a smile that can make me wanna sing
She gives me presents
With her presence alone
She gives me everything I could wish for
She gives me kisses on the lips just for coming home

She could make angels
I've seen it with my own eyes
You gotta be careful when you've got good love
Cause the angels will just keep on multiplying

But you're so busy changing the world
Just one smile and you can change all of mine
We share the same soul
Oh oh oh ohhh
We Share the same soul
Oh oh oh ohhh
We Share the same soul
Oh oh oh ohhh
Oh oh oh ohhh
Umm umm umm uhhhhhhmm

I, am probably the worst Christian I know. I don't keep promises, I go out and destroy my body everyday. Lord please forgive me for all I have done. I am Yours.

So I shout out your name, from the rooftops I proclaim,
that I am yours, I am yours..
And all that I am, I place into your loving hands
And I am yours, I am yours..

when all else fails.

these past couple weeks have been absolutely crazy!
keeping up with my life is almost as hard as learning how to tie your shoes!

i'm not sure if i'v gotten in over my head or not. with:

  • small group leader
  • school
  • work
  • leadership at Axis
    • meetings involved with that as well.
i absolutely love it, but i'm not sure if i am organized.
we're leaving in the morning, at 5:30am to go to UNLEASHED
at Newspring, in Anderson, SC. Church of pastor Perry Noble.
i am totally stoked, he is an amazing pastor and I cant wait to see him.
..however the part about the time were leaving, im dreading it.
Jacob Jones and I are car pooling and headin down together.. this could get interesting!
he's pretty much like my brother so i know we'll make it a good time.

I am so glad i had decided to be a small group leader, it has really help with me connecting to other single females and to be able to share my testimony as well as theirs. I really think that we can all become closer, together because of God's word. He has laid it on my heart to teach these women how to be 'The Young Lady in Waiting,' and we've completed 2 weeks out of 10 so far. It's amazing to see how women that you barely know can open up like they're your best friend.

..even when you're down in the dumps and it seems like all else has failed, God is there.

"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Ephesians 2:10

temperament.

definition:
–noun
1. the combination of mental, physical, and emotional traits of aperson; natural predisposition
.
2. unusual personal attitude or nature as manifested bypeculiarities of feeling, temper, action, etc., often with a disinclination to submit to conventional rules or restraints.

When I woke up this morning, I prayed to God that I tried my best today not to get an attitude or temper with anyone; especially because I had to work today.  Needless to say, my night at work went absolutely terrible  When I thought matters couldnt get worse, they did.... and it kept on happening.  I was cursing and making a fool of myself.  I completely lost my train of thought and the Devil got a hold of me.  Even when I was driving home, I was still angry.  I thought, "OF COURSE everything would go wrong on my last night at work." Considering I'm off all weekend-

When I got home, a friend of mine had finished the artwork he was working on for me.  He uploaded it to facebook and as soon as I saw it, all my anger, attitude and hatefulness just disappeared.  I could not believe the work he did for me.  I felt so ashamed for acting so rudely, not only toward my patients, but towards God.  God has always looked out for me, and I acted like a pure fool today.  All I can do is ask for forgiveness.  I wanted to try to go throughout my day today and just be a joyful person, and could not do it.  i let people get to me so easily its ridiculous.

Trey's artwork really opened my eyes.  I have never seen something so beautiful in my life, and I am so thankful he was my "reality check" tonight.  God is my Savior, and I am forever grateful that he guides me onto the right path and does not lead me astray.

isn't it beautiful?

Top Five Temptations Single People Face When Considering A Relationship

the wise words from Perry Noble, Senior Pastor at NewSpring Church in South Carolina.

#1 – Compromise! Hands down this is the first temptation…and I would argue that it is the girl that deals with this way more than the guy.  She begins wanting “Mr. Right” but will settle for “Mr. Right Now” if she perceives that all of her friends are getting married and she is not.  God has NEVER called His followers to compromise…EVER!!!  (And…ladies…if you are constantly having the defend the guy you are dating, then you know you are compromising.)
AND…ladies…if he is not pursuing you in a godly manner (which means he is not constantly trying to stick his hands down your pants) then drop him!
#2 – Believing That Marriage Will Solve The Struggles You Are Facing While Dating! Marriage is a magnifier…and if it is a small deal when you are dating then I promise it will be a BIG HONKIN’ deal when you tie the know!
#3 – Going Too Fast! Anyone can fool anyone for a short period of time!  You need to date someone “until the new wears off!”  If two people are in a hurry to get married then it is usually because they are trying to hide something from the other person…or because they just want to have sex!
#4 – Trying To Be The Person That The Person They Are Dating Wants Them To Be Rather Than Who They Are – If you are having to lie about who you are to date someone…then you need to break up today!  Ladies…DO NOT SAY you love football and want to go to games with him if you don’t know the difference between the offense and the defense.  Dudes, DO NOT SAY you absolutely LOVE chic flics and want to watch them for hours if doing so drives you crazy!  If you are doing things you HATE to do…but have refused to be honest and tell the other person the truth…then you are being dishonest with them.
#5 – Seeking Advice And/OR Affirmation From The Wrong People! Single people…please, if you want marriage/dating advice…then go to people who are actually married and have been so for a long time!  Why in the world would you ask a single person for marriage advice?  Why would you ask someone who has literally blown through relationship after relationship how to have a relationship?  Because they read a book?  Because they know some Bible verses?  REALLY?  If you want to know how to have a successful relationship…ask those who have one.
